When God Helps You

In 2015 I set out to pray concerning the next phase of my life having just completed my undergraduate study. I prayed for direction in different areas of my life, and most importantly I prayed: 'Lord it is the time! It is the time I finally get connected to a lady, it is time you bring one to me'. Within the same period, a lady whom I didn't know anything about, had never seen, and who has never seen me too messaged me 'Hy.. my friend told me about you', and somehow I felt then that God sent her. Within the same period, the chat moved from Facebook to Whatsapp and today she is my wife. A perfect fit I must say.

When I see people pursue things desperately, I always wish their eyes could be opened to see how shortsighted man could be. Yesterday, my wife told me about a lady who got into trouble that has brought deep pain to her family for over three years. It all started with her getting married to someone. The same marriage many people view as the solution to their anxiety has become to the lady the source of her biggest nightmare. The Bible said something very important: 'The LORD God also said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.'' (Genesis 2:18) This morning I was meditating on this verse of the scripture, and I could see the difference it makes when God helps a man.

The Bible said that God gave Adam help suitable to him. And to me it is not about marriage, it is about everything. I want to receive not just any kind of help, but help suitable for me, and only God has the absolute capacity to provide such help. It is the help I need in my career, in my finance, and in every area of my life. The help that is perfectly suitable for me; the help from God. David understood this very well when he sang: 'Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless.' (Psalm 108:12) He knew man can provide human help, he knew there are various ways one could seek or obtain help, but he sought for God's help because 'the help of man is useless'.

Prophet Isaiah communicated clearly God's word for those who seek help their own way. It shows the nature of help that is devoid of God: ''What sorrow awaits my rebellious children,' says the LORD. 'You make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances not directed by my Spirit, thus piling up your sins. For without consulting me, you have gone down to Egypt for help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh's protection. You have tried to hide in his shade. But by trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated, and by depending on him, you will be disgraced. For though his power extends to Zoan and his officials have arrived in Hanes, all who trust in him will be ashamed. He will not help you. Instead, he will disgrace you.'' (Isaiah 30:1-5) What have you put your trust in? What have you built your confidence around?

What you need brother, what you need sister is God's help. Not just in one area of your life but in all areas and pursuits of your life. He knows the help suitable for you, and he has the capacity to provide it. 'The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.' (Proverbs 10:22) Can you see that! It does mean that there are blessings that are not of the Lord. Yes, there are 'helps' that are not of the Lord. But the one that comes from God maketh rich and adds no sorrow. You need help that adds no sorrow, you need help suitable for you, you need the Lord's help. Don't just pick and choose where God should be involved in your life, it is best for you that he is involved in everything. It is best you trust and allow him to provide you the help fit for you. When God helps you, you will experience such peace and glory that nothing else could offer.
