You Can Be The First

For long my family lived in the bondage of the so-called generational problem. At the heart of the whole thing, I wrote boldly on the wall in my room, 'THE STORM HAS A LIMIT' to constantly remind myself and everyone that my case is different. I was confused about what may be the cause of the problems but I wasn't confused about what is my place in the whole thing. I told myself and also made it clear to everyone that I was impregnable. I knew if there was anyone to rewrite the story I was the one.

The story in Genesis chapter 4 interests me a lot. 'So Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died. Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.' Oh, boy! So many 'lived and died' are in that chapter of the bible. As you start to read the chapter you could almost conclude that every man will surely die. But that's not true, someone came and changed the narrative.

Verse 23 ends with 'So Enoch lived a total of 365 years.' Nothing like he died. All his ancestors died but not him. He didn't go the way of others. The bible said, 'And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.' (Genesis 4:24). If the ancestral problem of Enoch was death, he refused to have the same problem that all his ancestors had. The Bible explained to us how he pulled this off, 'By faith, Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death' (Hebrews 11:5) By Faith! All the tactics of the devil are to limit you by limiting your faith, but you can break the limit by faith.

So many have been taught to build their faith based on what has happened in the past, either in the bible or outside the bible, and to limit it on those things. But you should not be that way, you can be the first to do something no one else has ever done. What if no barren woman ever conceived in the bible. What if there was no Abraham-Sarah story, Hanah story, or Elizabeth story; can't you be the first barren woman to conceive? Can't you be the first? It is time to start thinking about Miracles that have never happened. That it has never happened does not mean it can't happen, maybe you're born to show it is possible.

The bible says, '..you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that' (Mark 7:12)

Refuse to be limited by what limits Africans, what limits your countrymen, or any other common limitations and trends in the world. You are born with the capacity to challenge the status quo and rewrite stories. You are born with what it takes to do the impossible. It is only impossible because someone has not done it. You can make it possible.

In the bible, it appeared the way God deals with the barrier of water is to part the river. Moses parted a river to allow the Israelites to cross, Joshua did, Elijah did the same, and Elisah also. But Jesus came and did something totally different, he didn't part the river, instead he walked on it. If he had limited himself to the stories of his ancestors and great prophets that have lived, he would have limited his mind to parting rivers. There are new dimensions to explore. Why not dare to challenge the way it has always been done (provided your approach is consistent with biblical principles and practice). All the great people you read about are people that dared to challenge the usual way.

Finally, concerning the issue of generational problems, always remember what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new'. Therefore, refuse to allow anyone keeps you in bondage with whatever stories! Refuse to go in the way of your ancestors. Make up your mind to show the world that you're a new creation. Make up your mind to do things that have never been done. Make up your mind to break protocols!
