The Triumph Of Peace

The Triumph Of Peace

According to the Oxford Dictionary, peace means 'freedom from disturbance; tranquility''. It could be a lack of conflicts between nations, interpersonal peace between individuals, or inner peace which refers to a lack of conflict within a person. The latter is the most subtle and common challenge in our society. People who seem to be happy or successful could be experiencing unseen grave inner conflict, nerve-wracking feelings, panic attacks, or life-threatening fears and worries from the past, present, and perceived future realities of their lives. Experiences of anxiety are quite common in our world, and many actually doubt the possibility and achievability of never-ending inner peace in a world full of chaos and uncertainties.

Jesus promised his disciples such a peace, 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.' (John 14:27). It is very interesting to note here that Jesus' promise to his disciples was not that they will have no troubles in their life. He knew they will surely experience challenges, troubles, and turbulence of life, but he assured them that when God's peace rules their heart, they will go through life without fears, worries, and other forms of inner conflicts. It is my desire that you dear reader will come to a place in your life where God's inner peace triumphs in your heart. God's peace can rule your heart despite the troubles the world throws at you. When it does, your life will become independent of circumstances, a state God desires for all his children.

The bible says, 'Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' (Philippians 4:6-7) One of the greatest discoveries you can make in life is to realize to a large extent you have control over your heart. Jesus said, let not your hearts be troubled, and let it not be afraid. Paul repeated the same saying, 'refuse to tolerate anxiety'. It is difficult to explain to someone who is experiencing an intense inner conflict and worries that they can put an end to it, but that is in the package of grace, and ability that we received in Christ Jesus. He has given us his never-ending peace. Remember, his peace is not the same kind of peace that the world offers, it is supernatural, and transcends all circumstances and human understanding.

Let the peace of God guard your heart, let it triumph over the events around you. Don't allow the circumstances of your life to deplete God's peace in your heart, instead, God's peace should triumph. It should triumph in your location, in your current job, in all that you do, or wherever you are. Jesus said, 'I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.' (John 16:33) He has overcome the world, he is not going to do it, it is a done deal. Don't allow circumstances to dictate the ways of your life and the state of your heart, let the peace of God rule your heart, and let it triumph in all situations and circumstances. 'You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.' (1 John 4:4). 'Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.' (Colossians 3:15).
